Raised to take pride in his heritage, he channels his immense strength solely into defense. His Fullbring powers stem from absorbing residual spirit pressure while unborn, allowing him to manipulate the soul of objects within himself. In Hueco Mundo, the environment amplifies his abilities, granting armor on both arms and high-speed movement akin to flash steps or sonido. While his right arm shifts to a defensive shield role, his left becomes an offensive weapon capable of delivering 'La Muerte,' a powerful energy-infused punch. Despite his power, Chad remains grounded in Karakura Town, treated equally by friends Ichigo, Keigo, and Mizuiro. Chad first enters the spiritual fray when he accepts a cursed cockatiel containing the spirit of Yuichi Shibata, forcing him to battle an unseen hollow. After saving Karin Kurosaki during a hollow-slaying match between Uryū and Ichigo, his latent powers awaken as armor on his right arm. Trained by Yoruichi Shihouin alongside Orihime Inoue, he travels to Soul Society, where he faces Shunsui Kyōraku of the 8th Division and is left heavily injured but alive. Later, during the Arrancar invasion in Karakura Town, he fights Ulquiorra Schiffer and Yammy Riyalgo before turning to Kisuke Urahara for training after realizing his inability to keep pace with Ichigo's escalating battles. In Hueco Mundo, Chad defeats Privaron Espada Gantenbainne Mosqueda but is severely wounded by Nnoitora Jiruga, requiring healing from Retsu Unohana. During the Xcution arc, he serves as an enforcer under Shūkurō Tsukishima's influence until his memories are restored after Tsukishima's death. In the final conflict against the Wandenreich, Chad, Orihime, and Urahara are grievously injured by Quilge Opie but saved when Grimmjow kills him.
